Happy Australia Day 2019

Hi everyone, Amira here to wish you all a wonderful Australia Day. I thought I would update you all on what Ive been doing over the past few months for me. I have gone back to school (well college to be exact) and I am working on getting certified to go into the aged care sector.  I am specifically focusing on dementia and disability. I have about 6 weeks to go before I go on placement in March and then I very much look forward to starting a rewarding career in aged care.  It's going to be a very busy next couple of months!! It has also been a great summer holidays!  Having my boys home from school is always a blessing although I don't know how it happens, but the contents of my kitchen usually end up in the theatre in front of the playstation.  Hmmm interesting that- especially when there is a blanket "No eating in the theatre" rule!!  A member of our family has also had a bit of a pamper and just in time for Australia Day no l...

Mixed Media Art Journal Cover ~ Today Yes You Can

Hi Everyone, I have finished one of my watercolor journals from last year and I just needed to go finish it off by working on the cover so that's what I'm sharing with you today.  I love the combination of yellow (fossilised amber and wild honey) with the peacock feathers Distress Oxides in the mixed media background. The stamp I used was Kaisercraft's 'Scrap Studio'. A paper doll (Tim Holtz) as the focal element plus a few pieces of ephemera from Echo Park's 'Just be You' die cuts which give this piece it's title. I also decided to do a little cluster of lace and ribbon overplayed with a butterfly in the bottom right corner which turned out so lovely in combination with her dress and the sentiment. Here is the front cover : And the back cover: It came together very quickly and Im so happy to be packaging this little journal off and sending it to it's new owner - shhhh it's surpris...

Mixed Media Art Layout ~ The Long Road to Mecca

Hi everyone, Today I am bringing you a Middle Eastern theme art journal layout using this beautiful die I recently bought from SU called Night in Bethlehem. The background was done using a mixture of Dandelion and Moroccan inks from Momento Luxe as well as some Distress Oxides ( Spiced Marmalade , Wild Honey and Abandoned Coral). I then added some ink through stencils as well as some texture paste through stencils to achieve a textured background. Next, I cut the die out of both black and white card stock. For the white card stock,  I used Lindy's Stamp Gang Moon Shadow Mist - Van Dyke Sepia to give the houses a weathered brown look and then stamped a crackle effect using the Kaisercraft stamp Crackle. To achieve the Sahara sand effect at the bottom, I used Seth Apter's Baked Texture in Ancient Amber and adhered it using glycerol (to replace my embossing pad which is rather dry and would not work well with this thick embossing pow...

Mixed Media Art Journal Layout ~ 2019~ Coffee is Better With Friends

Hi everyone, I am playing along with the It's a Brand New Day/ Coffee theme over at Aunty Vera Scrap and Craft . I found this cute coffee shop dimensional stickers from one of Aunty Vera's kits from last year and decided to build a story around it. This is your usual coffee spot in the 'burbs where good friends meet to catch up and exchange significant news since they had last seen each other.  It is situated just across from a park so when you look out of the window or sit in the back courtyard you see the beautiful blue sky and hear the lovely leaves rustle in the trees.  You have to agree that a good drink (be it coffee or tea- I love both) is better with friends. I felt like the letters needed to stand out more but didn't do as good a job with the shading. Next time, I'll use one of my charcoal pencils and not just my gel pen to do a quick job. You can find the process video  HERE Wishing you all a lovely da...

DIY Cross-Stitch Journal

Hey everyone, Starting off the year with a mini series from the archives. I filmed this tutorial back in March of 2018 but have only just gotten to it now. In this tutorial, I show you how to make a handmade journal from card stock (from scratch), collect papers to make inserts and make the inserts into signatures which you can bind in a cross stitch pattern which shows beautifully on the outside of the spine. I have broken this tutorial up into 3 parts so that it isn't very overwhelming. Part 1 is HERE Part 2 is HERE Part 3 is HERE I hope you are inspired to make one of your own. Cheers, Amira
