DIY COMIC COLLAGE SHOES - Marvel Scrapbooking Kit

Hi everyone, When I first opened this kit, a crazy thought ran in my head!! And that thought was - Wouldn't it be awesome if I could collage shoes with these superhero papers? I felt brave enough to give it a try! So, I skipped out to K-mart and bought canvas shoes.  The first thing I needed to do was make a 1:1 mixture of PVA glue and water. Next, I unlaced my shoes and scrunched up some magazine and stuffed it into my shoe so that the canvas was stretched taut. Next, I cut out pieces of the scrapbooking paper that I thought would look good on the shoes. Then I started adding them on. When it came to the front of the shoe, I snipped along the curve to allow the paper to curve nicely with the curve of the shoe. At times, I used my bone folder to work it in and at times I used my nails. I also applied the collage to the tongue of the shoe. Once both shoes were collaged on both sides, I allowed them to dry f...

Art Journal Swap Series ~ Collaboration with Suzanne Johnston ~ Where thou art

Hello everyone, So glad to be getting to this Art Journal Swap with my awesome friend Suzanne Johnson . This is my second layout in our book. You can find the first layout HERE The prompt for this layout are the bird die-cuts Suzanne sent me. I started off by collaging pieces of paper from my scraps using Modpodge, followed by a layer of gesso. Next came a layer of watercolors, followed by another layer of white acrylic paint softened with a wet cloth. From there, I fussy cut some flowers out of an old G45 collection of floral paper. I then set about stencilling leaves and stems and inking the edges and applying script stamping all over to make the pieces more cohesive. Next it was time for the die-cut birds. I coloured them in using my watercolors and then added them to the piece. The quote came from the G45 scrap paper I used. I finished off the edges with some Nuvo gold glimmer paste. You can watch the e...

12 Tags of 2015- May Tag

Hello and Welcome Dear Reader, Firstly, my apologies for being a bit late with posting my May Tag!! It's not that I'm lazy. HONEST! I've just had A LOT on my plate lately. But I promise you, everything is slowly coming down to "acceptable crazy" levels rather than "all-out crazy busy". On with the show...here is Tim's Tag for May: I knew as soon as I saw this tag that my grandmother's passport picture, that I have had in my drawer not knowing what to do with it, was going to be the feature item here. I also loved the idea of having a fabric tag..this was going to be a GOOD ONE!! Here is how mine turned out: I would say this month's tag was more a collage type- use-up- your- bits- and-pieces tag than an actual learning- a- new- technique tag. But Im ok with that!! I have drawers of bits and bobs!! Just a closer look at my beautiful Nanna...Rest In Peace darling Nanna..we will be together soon God- Willing..... ...
